Oyster Town: Norwalk is the sixth largest city in the state of Connecticut, and was once given the nickname "Oyster Town". This is because Norwalk is the largest oyster producer in Connecticut, and is also home to oyster company, Hillard Bloom Shellfish -- the nation's largest oyster company.
Each year during the first weekend after Labor Day, this "Oyster Town" holds an Oyster Festival in Veterans Park. This festival is full of various entertainment, as well as lots of food and vendors. In past years there have been performances by the Village People, Charlie Daniels Band, Willie Nelson, Kansas, Blood, Sweat & Tears, The Monkees, and Cheap Trick (just to name a few). This event generally receives an attendance of over 90,000 people!
In addition to the annual Oyster Festival, Norwalk also has fabulous museums, golf courses, a farmers market, an aquarium, an IMAX Theater, as well as several parks with walking and biking trails.
Come and see what makes Norwalk, Connecticut such a great place to be!
