Long Island Sound is one of the greatest attractions that Norwalk has to offer. In an effort to show people all of the wonders of this natural resource and provide an entertaining learning environment for kids, teachers, and adults, the Maritime Aquarium was completed in 1986 in a formally abandoned iron works factory. This was part of the revitalization project that took place in the area known as SoNo, or South Norwalk, when city representatives realized that they needed an attraction to bring tourists and residents to the area. Now you will find people who work in catering Toronto Ontario based to professors from San Francisco enjoying this venue.

Long Island Sound is described as a rainforest of the sea and is one of the most vibrant ecosystems in the world. The twenty million people who are living within a one-hour radius of the sound make for many challenges as they run factories that make bathroom furniture vanities to run events that bring thousands more into the waterfront area. One of the hopes of the Maritime Aquarium is to help to foster ethics in the average person that work towards ocean conservation. This aquarium is different from many others across the country because it focuses on the aqua life surrounding this specific region.

The aquarium is full of exhibits and entertainment options for those of all ages. For those under the age of six there is the Ocean Playspace. This is not only an engaging and fun place to play for those in their earliest years, but it is also full of interactive games and toys that promote motor skills, coordination, sensory awareness, and creativity. For those that are a little older and interested in travel between working as commercial mortgage lenders or attending school there is Tango. This is an orange boat that looks like a submarine that was used to cross the trans-Atlantic by Dwight Collins. He set a record for doing it in a pedal-powered vessel in only forty days.

The most popular residents at the Maritime Aquarium are the harbor seals. These animals can actually be found in the area during the winter months but you'll never get a better view of them than at this facility. There is also a collection of river otters in the facility, as well as stingrays, frogs, starfish, crabs, and jellyfish. If you're traveling from as far away as working in horse boarding London Ontario than you might be surprised to hear that there are even sand tiger sharks in Long Island Sound.

This area is a great choice if you're looking for a relaxed but still exciting vacation spot. You can check out some sea turtles during the afternoon and then head into the city for a nice dinner. You won't get that when staying in a Toronto bed & breakfast.
